What is a garden suite?
Garden suites are separate dwellings located behind the principal residence. A garden suite is a housing unit that integrates seamlessly into an existing residential area. These units are small-scale housing units and can be used to address growing housing market problems.
Other names for garden suites are granny flat, coachhouse, and tiny home. This law, which was recently passed in Toronto, allows the construction and use garden suites on existing properties that don’t abut a laneway.
Discover The Garden Suite Requirements
The following are a list of eligibility requirements in order to build a garden suite.
- 45-meter distance between the entrance and public street.
- 1.0 to 2.1-meter vertical clearance from the public street.
- Side yards have to meet a minimum of 0.6 meters and 10% of the lot frontage and a maximum of 3.0 meters.
